HOW DO I READ THE RESULTS?
Results
The speed test results are given in kilobits. To calculate your actual download and upload speed, do the following calculation:
Kilobits ÷ 8 = Actual Speed
There are 8 bits in one byte, and taking your results divided by eight performs the bit to byte conversion.
Example:
1436 kilobits ÷ 8 = 179.5 Kilobytes
This means you were downloading the example file at 179.5 KB / sec.
Why is this important?
This test measures your connection speed to our server. These results can be used for troubleshooting and comparison purposes.
My results were lower than expected. Why?
There are many factors that affect the outcome of the speed test.
- Downloading files or streaming media during the test.
- Being on a network with other users (who may be using the internet).
- Overhead. There is a certain amount of reserved bandwidth for internet traffic.
- Type of connection. Both Dialup and DSL service is considered a "best-effort" technology, where the maximum speed is what is possible, not what is available.
